MalacaƱang Declares January 9, 2024 as Special Non-Working Day in Manila

Students nationwide to enjoy extended break

MalacaƱang Palace has declared Tuesday, January 9, 2024 as a special non-working day in the City of Manila. The announcement was made through Proclamation No. 152 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on December 29, 2023.

The proclamation states that the special non-working day is declared in order to "give the people of Manila a chance to celebrate the Feast of the Black Nazarene."

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a major religious festival in the Philippines that is held every January 9. The procession of the Black Nazarene is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, with millions of devotees participating.

In addition to the special non-working day in Manila, public elementary and high schools throughout the country will also be closed on January 9-13, 2024. This is in accordance with the Department of Education's (DepEd) school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

The extended break will give students a chance to rest and prepare for the second semester of the school year, which begins on January 16, 2024.

The declaration of a special non-working day in Manila and the closure of public schools nationwide is a welcome development for students, teachers, and parents alike. It will give everyone a chance to enjoy the holidays and prepare for the new year.
